Bearcats fall to 24) Cornell 5-0

VESTAL -- Daniel Haber had two goals and an assist, powering No. 24 Cornell (6-0-0) to a 5-0 win over Binghamton (3-5-0) in a non-conference mens soccer game at the Bearcats Sports Complex on Tuesday night.

In addition to being ranked in the NSCAA/adidas poll, the Big Red are also receiving votes in the College Soccer News poll.

Haber came into the game leading the nation with 3.20 points per game. Following the victory over the Bearcats, he now has nine goals and four assists. In the process, he tied his 2011 season high for goals in a season.

In addition to facing its first nationally-ranked opponent of the season, Binghamton was further challenged by mounting injuries throughout the game. Five players had to leave the match, leaving Binghamton depleted as the match went on.

Obviously, we are disappointed with the outcome, head coach Paul Marco said. We were completely in the match for the first part of the game but Haber is a special player. We didnt give him a lot of room but he still put the ball in the net."

After an even 25 minutes of action, Cornell struck twice in a span of 2:42 on unassisted goals by Peter Chodas and Haber to go up 2-0 at the half.

In the 59th minute, Haber fired a cross that was headed in by Regan Tyler. He then took matters into his own hands, tipping in a pass from Nico Nissl in the 68th minute. It then took Cornell just 1:23 to score again, this time on an unassisted goal by Matt Kagie.

Senior forward Jake Keegan, who also came into the game with seven goals, was held to one close-range shot for the game, which occurred with 15 minutes left. Rick Pflasterer was able to make the save, securing Cornells fourth shutout in six games.
Freshman goalkeeper Stefano Frantellizzi finished with a pair of saves.

Binghamton heads to Adelphi for a 7 p.m. match on Saturday.
