What does the Binghamton area have to do with the Chesapeake Bay?
The Susquehanna flows into it, several hundred miles down river as it empties into the Atlantic Ocean off Virginia and Maryland.
And that's why the city of Binghamton has been awarded 200 thousand dollars by the Chesapeake Bay Program and the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation.
The money is used to create programs to encourage Green infrastructure projects. That will include care and restoration of wetlands, streamside forests, along with erosion control.
What goes into the Susquehanna eventually goes into the Cheasapeake Bay.
