And that's good news for some local businesses who are hoping to cash in.
Long-time stores like Mondo books, which is across from campus, are ready for the surge of students.
New businesses like the Jimmy John's on the Vestal Parkway are eager to meet thousands of potential customers.
"One of the reason's we selected this location is how close it is to the university so we're very excited," said Bill Donaldson the owner of Jimmy John's on the Vestal Parkway.
"We spend the semesters and the summer breaks preparing for this week really," said Lia Ponterotto.
Jimmy John's plans on hiring more delivery drivers throughout the semester.
