There are currently no confirmed cases of West Nile Virus in Broome County, but officials still want you to stay safe.
The Broome County Health Department is urging residents to use insect repellent, wear long pants and shirts, and make sure to empty any containers with standing water.
"This year because of the early summer and drought conditions the type of mosquito that not only carries the virus, not only carries it, acquires it and transmits it. They're container breeders and they like very organic water," said Chris Coddington the Director for the Division of Environmental Health for Broome County.
Mostly people who become infected with West Nile will actually not show any symptoms.
