A 'Smile' for Chenango
8/24/2012 (Updated 11:29:45 PM)
That's what some soon-to-be-received Regional Council funding will do:
A two hundred thousand dollar low interest loan will go to the re-development of the former Salvation Army Building along the main stretch in downtown Norwich.
The building has a number of problems, including asbestos, which would make it unattractive to potential buyers.
After the building is revamped, it could be sold to a private developer.
"You know, I kind of like to look at a downtown district as a smile. Once you lose a tooth here and a tooth there, the smile doesn't look so good does it? Well we didn't want to lose this tooth," said Steve Craig, who heads the Chenango County Chamber of Commerce.
Sunrise Family farms and Purdy and Sons foods will be receiving loans for expansions and new equipment.
