Mother on Trial for Killing Son

Disturbing and graphic testimony Tuesday at the trial of a woman accused of killing her two-and-a-half-year-old son.

The prosecution called it's witnesses to the stand Tuesday at the trial of Veronica Taft.

She is accused of killing her son Lyric back in December of 2010 at their Fayette Street home in Binghamton.

A pair of sisters who were family friends, and babysitters testified for the prosecution.

One said Taft favored her three daughters over Lyric and that Taft would call her son by a racial slur.

The witness also testified that when Lyric cried: his mother would hold him by the back of the neck and put his head into a pillow for up to a minute.

The other friend testified she saw Taft beat Lyric with a foot-long, metal soup ladle leaving welts on his back.

Police say Lyric Taft died due to severe trauma.

The defense tried to present inconsistencies in witness testimony.

The trial continues Wednesday morning.
