B-Mets close series in style with 7-2 win

HARRISBURG, PA  Juan Centeno and Allan Dykstra each drove in three runs to lead the Binghamton Mets past the Harrisburg Senators in a 7-2 win Sunday afternoon at Metro Bank Park. The B-Mets pounded out 15 hits in the rubber match, securing their second straight series victory.

After stranding four runners through the first two innings, the B-Mets struck against starter Paul Demny in the third. Binghamton started the big frame with three straight singles, capped by Allan Dykstras RBI basehit to right.

A walk to Jefry Marte loaded the bases and set the table for Juan Centeno. The B-Mets catcher ripped a 2-0 pitch into the right field alley and cleared the bases with his second triple of the season.

Demny issued two more walks to load the bases and was replaced by Brian Broderick. The righty extinguished the flames by inducing Sean Kazmar to ground out to end the inning.

B-Mets starter Cory Mazzoni allowed at least one runner in each of his first four innings, but did not surrender a run. His luck changed in the fifth when reliever Broderick laced a single to left. Broderick took second on a balk and scored on back-to-back singles. Mazzoni walked Tim Pahuta to load the bases, putting the tying run on, but induced Destin Hood to ground out to end the threat.

After watching Broderick put down nine in a row, the B-Mets finally solved the righty with a run on three singles in the sixth and a solo homer by Raul Reyes in the seventh. Reyes fifth home run of the season gave Binghamton a 6-1 lead.

Jeff Kaplan took over for Mazzoni in the sixth and tossed a scoreless inning. Adam Kolarek entered in the seventh and got off on the wrong foot, allowing a pinch-hit home run to Jimmy Van Ostrand. The southpaw fought past the homer and battled through two innings of relief without allowing another run.

Dykstra capped his three-RBI day with a sac fly against Rafael Martin in the eighth, extending Binghamtons lead to five for Ryan Fraser. The righty struck out two as he breezed through a perfect ninth inning to secure the win.

Mazzoni (5-3) scattered six hits while allowing one run over five innings. He walked a season-high three and struck out two. Demny (6-7) was tagged for four runs on eight hits over 2.2 innings in the loss.

The B-Mets (59-62) enjoy a day off Monday before kicking off a three-game series against the New Hampshire Fisher Cats in Manchester on Tuesday night at 7:05 PM. RHP Gonzalez Germen starts for Binghamton against RHP Brandon Morrow.
