Independence Party Will Hold Primary

There will be a primary to pick an Independence Party Candidate for Broome County Executive.

Last month Democract Tarik Abdelazim spoke out, criticizing how the Independence Party decided it would endorse Debbie Preston.

Now, Abdelazim is getting what he wanted, a primary to decide who will get to run on the Independence Party Line.

But only Preston will appear on the ballot.

Voters will have to write in Abdelazim's name.

"We suspect more voters will come out supporting me than voters come out supporting her.  That's the game plan.  This is all going to be about get-out-the-vote efforts and for our side it's going to be providing them the information and tools needed to spell Tarik Abdelazim correctly," said Abdelazim.

Preston's spokesperson John Bernardo says. "Preston is the endorsed candidate of the Independence Party, and looks forward to the primary and general elections."
