Public Weighs in on Dorms at BCC
8/7/2012 (Updated 11:39:57 PM)Dorms could be coming to Broome community College, but before the school makes any final decisions, President Kevin Drumm is asking for public opinion.
On Tuesday night, BCC listened to neighbors expressing their concerns about new new dorms. Drumm explained the master plans for the project.
Some high points include no additional taxes on the community, the possibility that tuition could be lowered because of dorm revenues, and bringing in new students to the area.
Bob Ross, the consultant to BCC said there would be no direct cost to the community college or the tax payers.
"We want to be able to prove that option to local students," said Drumm.
Although, President Drumm is confident dorms will have a positive impact on both the school and the community. Some local residents voiced concerns about noise, flood drainage, and traffic.
A decision is expected this fall.
