Senators squeak past B-Mets 3-2

BINGHAMTON -- The Harrisburg Senators scored all their runs with two outs to hand the Binghamton Mets a 3-2 defeat Wednesday night at NYSEG Stadium. The B-Mets were limited to five hits and had only two at-bats with runners in scoring position, suffering just their third loss in the last nine games.

Harrisburg took the game wire-to-wire, grabbing a lead in the second inning with a two-out rally against B-Mets starter Gonzalez Germen. Justin Bloxom sent a double to left center to start the rally and scored on a single threaded down the left field line by Devin Ivany. Dustin Martins bobble in left allowed Ivany to take second, setting the stage for an RBI single by Jonathan Tucker.

The B-Mets were kept in check through the first four innings by starter Kevin Pucetas who allowed just two baserunners. Binghamton broke through in the fifth with some two-out hitting of their own. Wilfredo Tovar doubled, took third on a ground out and scored when Germen shot an RBI single up the middle.

Harrisburg came back with more offense in the sixth against Germen. James Skelton shot a single to center and came home on Zach Walters two-out triple to right center.

Pucetas night ended after five innings. Paul Demny posted a scoreless sixth and handed off to Marcos Frias in the seventh. Martin helped the B-Mets scratch within one with a leadoff single and took second on a sac bunt. With two outs and pinch-hitter Wilmer Flores at the plate, Martin scampered to third on a wild pitch and scored when catcher Ivanys throw sailed past Tim Pahuta.

It was as close as the B-Mets would get as they failed to get another runner to second base. Juan Lagares reached on a bunt single in the eighth against Hector Nelo, but was thrown out attempting to steal second. Reese Havens followed with a walk, but was erased on a double play. Patrick McCoy worked around a two-out walk in a shutout ninth, securing his second save.

Pucetas (7-4) allowed one run on three hits over five innings and helped Harrisburg snap a five-game losing streak. Germen (6-8) suffered his second straight loss. The righty surrendered three runs (two earned) on six hits over seven innings. Frank Francisco threw a scoreless eighth in his fifth rehab game with Binghamton.

The B-Mets (52-57) will look to take the rubber match Thursday night at 6:35 PM. RHP Cory Mazzoni takes the hill against Major League rehabber RHP Chien-Ming Wang.
