United Way Grant Awards
7/31/2012 (Updated 11:04:39 PM)8 local non-profit organizations that help populations like young people and the disables will be granted over $70,000.
The announcement was made Monday by the United Way of Broome County and the Howland Foundation.
People gathered at the Jewish Community Center to hear the news.
"Fabulous! That's all I can say. It's almost overwhelming. Like I almost can't even believe it. Like really, we have this grant? So we can support more families," said Tina Caswell of Strides for Communication.
"This has been a good way for us to expand our reach, and partner with others in the community to actually bring about positive change in peoples' lives," said Alan Hertel of the United Way of Broome County.
Together the organizations have put about $1.3 million back into the community over the past twenty years.
