Broome County Hosts Health And Safety Day
7/28/2012 (Updated 10:58:43 PM)Making sure that your children are safe when you're transporting them in your vehicle. That's part of what was taking place in the parking lot of the Broome County Health Department.
Certified Child Passenger Safety Technicians were making sure that car seats were properly installed, and if they weren't they were shown the proper way to do it. One of the most common problems the technicians see is a loose car seat.
"We see a lot of car seats misused. About 80 percent of the seats that come in have some sort of misuse to them, so we want to make sure that the car seats are installed properly so your child is safe in the vehicle" said Christine Muss, Broome County Traffic Safety Coordinator.
Replacement seats were given if the car seat was expired, recalled or deemed unsafe. The Health Department also had set up stations educating residents about several topics including immunizations and emergency preparedness.
