Vestal Family Has Close Call After Tree Falls On Home
7/26/2012 (Updated 7/28/2012 3:24:04 PM)
This was the scene at 148 Lincoln Drive in Vestal Thursday afternoon after a tree crashed through the roof of Mike and Laura Corson's home.
"It was just a very windy and dark all at once and there was just a big cracking noise. I was sitting at the kitchen table and the tree split in two and came thru my roof" said Laura Corson.
Laura says she then ran into the bathroom to call her husband and son
but was having trouble getting through so she called 911.
"I was a little hysterical with 911. My shoulder hurts I must have been hit with debris" said Laura Corson.
The crash left the house with debris throughout the inside of the home and left some serious cracks in the structure which they just remodeled in 2009. Mike Corson says he's thankful his wife wasn't seriously hurt, and they'll survive and move on.
"We've contacted the insurance company and hopefully get a contractor out here in next few days. The boys were good enough to be here and neighbors came out and there's a tarp on the roof so hopefully it will stop raining.
Meanwhile in other areas throughout Vestal the wind toppled trees on top of power lines and NYSEG crews were working hard to get things back to normal. The storm also left many businesses on Route 434 without power and even caused traffic problems. But for the Corson's the crisis they had to endure was the place they call home, a place which had been surrounded by flood waters just this past September.
Another close call for a family that despite the latest blow, says that it could have been worse.
"I'm thankful I'm not in the hospital or worse just my shoulder hurts so I'm happy with that.
