Mom's House Set to Move Back in Mid-August

With September's flood bringing water up to the ceiling of Mom's House's Harry L Drive location in Johnson City, the agency knew it faced a monumental rebuilding effort.

"Last September we came in and it was total devastation and it was tough to see," said Laura Bowen, Executive Director of Mom's House.

But now there's light at the end of the tunnel.

The agency is set to move back in mid-August.

"A lot of decisions to be made, a lot of funding to obtain. And again, it is overwhelming," said Bowen.

Mom's House will be able to once again offer free day care to single mothers so they can continue their education.

"Centrally located and it's ideal for - it's near BCC, it's near BU, and all the area high schools. So that's one of the reasons we're decided to stay here and rebuild," said Bowen.

The $400,000 rebuilding project was made possible by community donations and $125,000 in grants the latest being a $20,000 gift from the Stewart W. and Wilma C. Hoyt foundation.

"We've had a lot of donations from our supporters, our long-time supporters and our new supporters, businesses, organizations," said Bowen.

Mom's House is adding a second story to it's building.

It will house a mechanical room and files to put critical pieces of equipment, and information out of harms way in case of another flood.

"It gives us encouragement. Even if it were to happen again we're in much better shape and it would be just a matter of weeks before we could get back into the building if it were to happen again," said Bowen.
