B-Mets fall again; Lose 6-2 to Bowie

BOWIE, MD  Caleb Joseph homered twice to lead the Bowie Baysox past the Binghamton Mets by a 6-2 score Sunday night at Prince Georges Stadium. The B-Mets rolled into four double plays and suffered their sixth loss in the last seven games.

For the fourth straight night, the Baysox drew first blood. Rhyne Hughes ripped a double off the right field wall to start the rally in the second against starter Darin Gorski. Joseph capped a lengthy battle by sending the ninth pitch of his at bat over the left field wall for a two-run homer. He followed the round tripper with a solo bomb to lead off the fourth.

Things only got worse for Gorski later in the fourth. The lefty issued four walks and allowed another run to score without giving up a hit. The southpaw finished the inning, but did not return for the fifth. He allowed four runs on five hits, struck out five and walked six, a career-high. His streak of quality starts was snapped at five.

Binghamton could not get the offense going against Bowie starter Mike Wright. In his third start since returning from the disabled list, the righty kept the B-Mets in check for five shutout innings. He allowed two hits and worked around a walk and a pair of hit batsmen.

Adrian Rosario kept the B-Mets within striking distance after taking over in the fifth. The righty posted three scoreless innings, taking the game into the eighth.

Meanwhile, Robert Hinton took over and posted two scoreless innings before the B-Mets offense cracked the scoreboard in the eighth. Juan Lagares started a two-out rally by tripling to right. Reese Havens brought him home by dumping a single to shallow right.

With their lead cut to three, the Baysox fought back in the bottom of the eighth against Robert Carson. The lefty walked one and allowed three hits, capped by Ty Kellys two-run single.

Down by five, Binghamton staged a comeback against reliever Clay Schrader. The righty recorded just one out, allowed a single and issued three walks. He was pulled after walking Francisco Pena to force in a run.

With Wilfredo Tovar at the plate representing the tying run, Kyler Newby entered from the bullpen. Pitching for the second straight night, the righty induced Tovar to bounce into a game-ending double play to collect his seventh save.

Gorski (5-5) suffered his first loss since April 26, while Wright (1-3) collected his first Double-A victory.

Mike Baxter went 1-for-3 and was hit by a pitch in his third rehab game with Binghamton. Right fielder Buck Britton robbed him of an extra-base hit in the eighth inning on a leaping catch at the wall.

The B-Mets (46-54) continue their week-long roadtrip against the New Britain Rock Cats. Their three-game series starts Monday night at 7:05 PM.
