Vietnam Era Helicopter at Healing Wall Event
7/19/2012 (Updated 10:56:16 PM)Thursday at Owego Free Academy, visitors to the Wall could see a helicopter that was used in the Vietnam war.
These days the chopper, which is now owned by Lockheed Martin, is utilized to show their new products.
But Thursday it provided a chance to view one of the most important tools the Army had in the Vietnam war.
"It picked up the nickname "the helicopter war," as you've probably seen in books and movies, because there weren't any roads. You had no way to transport troops or equipment or tanks or anything. So it became a helicopter war the way you transported everything back and forth."
Stuart says this type of helicopter was used in the Mel Gibson movie "We Were Soldiers."
