BINGHAMTON -- Second Round Singles Results:

American Michael McClune defeated Greg Jones (AUS) 6-4, 6-7(5), 6-3.
This is Jones third appearance here, having reached the quarter-finals last year. He was a finalist in the Caloundra, Australia Challenger event this year.
McClune, 22, battled to defeat the #2 seed Marco Chiudinelli (SUI) in the first round 7-5, 3-6, 7-6(5). He is improving his ranking after recovering from a hip injury in 2010. In 2007, he won the USTA 18s singles title to win a wild card berth into the US Open main draw.

Adrien Bossel (SUI) defeated the 8th seeded Adrian Mannarino (FRA) in a tense 3 setter 4-6, 7-6(5), 7-6(4).
Mannarino, 24, is ranked 197 in the world, after reaching a career best ranking of 49 in July 2011. He reached the round of 16 at the Auckland, New Zealand ATP event in January this year, and played in the main draw at both the Australian and French Opens.
Bossel, 25, currently ranked 393 in the world, won 2 Futures events and was a finalist in a third in 2011.

Jamie Baker (GBR) defeated 18 year old American wild card Christian Harrison in a match that lasted 2 hours 50 minutes 7-5, 6-7(3), 6-2.
Harrison, serving at 5-4 in the first set, had 3 set points. Baker was able to fight off all 3 to even the set at 5-5. Baker held serve, then broke Harrison again to take the set 7-5. After exchanging service breaks the 2nd set settled in a 6-6 tie, which Harrison won 7-3. Bakers experience came through in the third set as he cruised to a 6-2 win.
Harrison turned 18 in May. This is his first Pro Circuit Challenger level event. This year on the Futures circuit, he has captured 2 semi-final and 2 quarter-final spots.
Baker, 25, is from Glasgow, Scotland and currently ranked 201 in the world. He has 1 futures win this year, and advanced to the semi-final of the Bath, Great Britain Challenger event.

In the final first round singles match of the day, American Michael Yani defeated Alex Bogdanovic (GBR) in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4. Yani was born in Singapore and currently resides in Durham, North Carolina. In 4 years as a Duke University Blue Devil, he accumulated a singles record of 81-27, and in 2003 was named the ACC mens tennis player of the week. He is currently ranked 183, with a career best rank of 143 (March 2010). His career highlights include having won a qualifier spot for the US Open twice (2009, 2011) and for Wimbledon (2009).
Bogdanovic, 28, is currently 379 in the world, having reached a career best ranking of 108 in 2006. This past Sunday he won the outdoor clay court Futures event in Rochester, NY.

First Round Doubles Results:

Tennys Sandgren (USA) and Rhyne Williams (USA), the number 3 seeded doubles team, defeated Drew Courtney (USA) and Denis Kudla (USA) 6-2, 6-2.
Sandgren and Williams were All-American teammates at the University of Tennessee. Two weeks ago they reached the semi-final of the Winnetka, Illinois Challenger event, and have won 3 Pro Circuit Futures events this year.
Kudla and Courtney are teaming up together for the first time. Courtney teamed with Michael Shabaz to win the 2010 NCAA doubles championship while at the University of Virginia.

Izak Van der Merwe (RSA) and Austin Krajicek (USA) defeated Andrew Carter (USA) and Patrick Daciek (USA) 7-5, 6-3.
The number 1 seeded team of Krajicek and Van der Merwe are teaming up for the first time, but have had doubles success this year with different partners. Van der Merwe reached the round of 32 at Wimbledon this year teaming up with Bobby Reynolds, and last week at Newport RI he reached the semi-finals partnering with fellow South African Raven Klassen. He also claims 2 Challenger doubles titles this year. Krajicek is a 2 time winner in Pro Circuit Futures doubles events this year, partnering with fellow American Devon Britton.
The wild card team of Andrew Carter and Patrick Daciek is teaming up together for the first time.

Darian Bossel (SUI) and Michael McClune (USA) defeated the number 2 seeded doubles team of Vahid Mirzadeh (USA) and Maciek Sykut (USA) 7-6(5), 2-6, 10-4. (Note that in doubles play, a 10 point tiebreak is played in lieu of a third set)
Mirzadeh and Sykut reached the semi-final of the Panama City, Panama Challenger event 2 weeks ago. Bossel and McClune are teaming up together for the first time.

The doubles match of Daniel King-Turner (NZL) and Gleb Sakharov (FRA) vs. Jamie Baker (GBR) and Christian Harrison (USA) will be rescheduled because the Harrison-Baker singles match continued until late in the day.

Fast Serve Contest:
For the second year in a row, Greg Jones (AUS) won the fast serve contest (including a $250 first place prize) with a serve of 123 MPH.
