Floral Park Pool Open with Increased Police and Staff Presence

The Floral Park pool reopened at noon on Monday, with additional visits from police and public works staff.

Johnson City officials shut the pool down after an incident last Thursday.

According to  Mayor Greg Deemie, a young girl was kicked out of the park for unruly behavior.
   
Her father then verbally attacked one of the lifeguards, prompting the close.

City officials say they are concerned with the safety of their staff.

"Well, it's very sad. The village employees, they put in a lot of time and effort trying to improve these parks. Unfortunately the few ruin it for everybody," said Bob Bennett, Director of Public Services.

Last week Binghamton City officials faced a similar issue.

They closed the pool at Cheri Lindsey Park for several days, after a series of threats against lifeguards there.

With a plan to boost police presence, the pool reopened on Friday.
