Mayor Says Verbal Assault Closed Floral Park Pool
7/13/2012 (Updated 11:28:18 PM)As the Southern Tier seeks relief from the heat another municipality has closed one of it's pools due to an altercation between a patron and a lifeguard.
This time it was in Johnson City at the Floral Avenue pool. The Mayor says it started when a young girl was kicked out of the pool for not following the rules. He says her father then began attacking the lifeguard with serious verbal accusations. The man has been banned from the park and he's been issued a summons. Meanwhile the lifeguards have requested not to work at the pool and the mayor says it will be closed for the weekend.
"Were not tolerating these incidents anymore. Unfortunately many will suffer because of a few, but serious things were said and we can't tolerate it anymore, we have to take a stand" said Johnson City Mayor Greg Deemie.
The mayor says they hope to re-open the pool on Monday, but with shorter hours. At this time they're looking at noon until 4 p.m.
