Campbell named MVP of All-Star game
7/12/2012 (Updated 11:03:02 PM)
Campbell, enjoying his professional All-Star Game, went 2-for-3 and was named Most Valuable Player.
Facing Hector Nelo of the Harrisburg Senators with runners on second and third, Campbell grounded a 3-1 pitch into left field, bringing home Reading Phillies shortstop Troy Hanzawa to secure the walk-off win.
The hit capped a terrific night for the Connecticut native who entered as a pinch-hitter in the fifth inning and doubled to center. He scored later in the inning on a pinch-hit sac fly by fellow B-Met Jefry Marte.
Marte, also experiencing his first professional All-Star Game, followed his sacrifice fly with a single in the eighth inning. He recorded one putout in the game at third base.
Reliever Armando Rodriguez entered with the score tied in the seventh and worked a quick inning. He struck out Chris Rahl, induced Robbie Widlansky to fly out, walked Buck Britton and fanned Eury Perez in a scoreless frame.
New Britain Rock Cats righty Daniel Turpen earned the win by getting the final out in the top of the ninth inning. Nelo suffered the loss.
