Drilling Debate in Windsor
7/11/2012 (Updated 11:25:34 PM)
Meetings were held Wednesday evening in Vestal and Windsor.
People are responding to Governor Cuomo's indications that community preference will play a large role in determining where gas drilling actually happens.
However, gauging that public opinion isn't so simple.
In Windsor hundreds of people showed up at the Central High School auditorium for a town board meeting.
Some of the debate centered on whether a resolution passed by the board in May was neutral or favored gas drilling.
James Worden, President of the Windsor/Colesville Gas Coalition, clarifies that, "The resolution never said anything about whether the town supports fracking. We are leaving it up to the DEC to decide."
Conversely, Scott Clarke, a West Windsor resident and featured speaker says, "I think everyone, every citizen, has an important role in making this decision. I hope it's not just decided by the Town Board of Windsor."
Worden says, "It is not a town decision. It is a state decision on whether this should be allowed or not."
