Local Actors Perform in "A Very Potter Musical"
7/7/2012 (Updated 7/9/2012 3:39:34 PM)Area high school and college students are performing in a reunion tour of "A Very Potter Musical"
Last year the same group adapted the YouTube phenomenon to fit their cast of characters and performed to several packed houses. For those that did not get to see the show the first time around, the play is a satire of the Harry Potter book and movie series and was made famous by Glee cast member, Darren Criss. For the local performers playing spoofs of characters they grew up with presents a new challenge.
"The whole point of this satire is it takes some of the nuances of character and embellishes them. I have a great respect for Albus Dumbledore," said Chris Scripter.
"But, in this musical, you might say 'oh this guy's a little bit creepy' because I'm supposed to play up these certain characteristics. In that sense, it's hard because I really admire this character in the books, and in the musical he's a little bit of a strange guy to emulate."
The group has been performing all weekend and has one more performance left Sunday afternoon at 2:30 at the Saint Francis of Assisi School in Hillcrest.
All proceeds go to benefit the Binghamton Humane Society.
