Seven People Driven From Home by Riverside St. Fire

Seven people were lucky not to have been home at the time a fire broke out in their rented second story apartment early Wednesday evening in Binghamton:
 
It happened shortly after 6PM at 24 Riverside Street.

Authorities don't know what caused the fire, but smoke was pouring from the rear of the building when they arrived.

Fire officials say the blaze seemed centered in a bedroom, but might have migrated from a lower floor.

There was concern at first that someone might be inside--a dog was, but the chocolate lab was led out safely by firefighters.

No injuries were reported.
