Small Businesses Remember Flood Damage
6/27/2012 (Updated 10:43:45 PM)
One of the many businesses affected by the flooding was Southbridge Wine and Spirits on the Southside of Binghamton.
Although the establishment was located hundreds of yards away from the river, the store still encountered flood damages in 2006 and had to be closed down while plaster, rugs and insulation were replaced.
Again, in 2011, Southbridge Wine and Spirits was hit by the flood and faced damages that they had experienced just five years earlier.
Employee, Chris Furner, said,
"After '06 I thought there was no way this is going to happen again. We're 500 yards away - even more - from the river. I just thought there was no way that much water could make it up here again."
The second time, however, dozens of supportive customers helped the business clean up and get back on their feet.
