B-Mets bashed by Bowie in series opener
6/26/2012 (Updated 11:16:22 PM)
Binghamton starter Cory Mazzoni (1-1) struggled in his home B-Mets debut, allowing seven runs (six earned) on a career-high ten hits over six innings in the loss. Adrian Rosario fared no better, surrendering three runs on four hits while walking two in one inning on the hill. Brad Holt gave up two hits and posted two scoreless innings.
The Baysox grabbed the lead early and never let go on a three-run homer from Manny Machado in the first inning. Bowie added another run in the third before kicking into gear in the sixth. They scored three runs on five hits, highlighted by a solo home run by Robbie Widlansky and an RBI double by Buck Britton. Bowie added three more runs in the seventh against Rosario.
Binghamton was kept in check by Bowie starter Rick Zagone. Making his first start for the Baysox in 2012, the southpaw cruised through six innings, facing just two over the minimum.
The B-Mets only offensive highlight was provided by Eric Campbell in the seventh inning. Binghamton's leading hitter crushed a payoff pitch over the message center in left field for his fifth home run of the season. The drive extended his hitting streak to seven games.
Zagone (1-0) retired the next two B-Mets to end his night. He allowed just one run on three hits and struck out six over seven innings in the win. Mike Belfiore tossed two scoreless innings to cap the ballgame.
The B-Mets (36-39) continue their series against the Baysox Wednesday night at 6:35 PM. RHP Gonzalez German goes for the B-Mets against RHP Tim Bascom.
