Free Car Seat Inspections in Johnson City
6/23/2012 (Updated 11:36:20 PM)
On Saturday Parents were given the opportunity to find out as the Broome County Sheriff's Department and Empower Federal Credit Union teamed up for a child safety seat.
Parents could get their car seats checked to see if they were actually safe and if they properly fit their child. If a seat is deemed unsafe they are collected and destroyed but parents need not worry, you'll get a new one.
"If we find seats that are recalled, expired, they don't fit the child anymore or they're unsafe for some reason and the child is present, we can replace the seat so the parent doesn't leave with something that's not safe" says
Traffic Safety Coordinator Christine Muss.
By noon over a dozen cars had already been inspected while others waited their turn in line. The Sheriff's Office had also collected and replaced about six seats.
