New Vests for Binghamton Police

BINGHAMTON -- Binghamton Police will soon be getting new bulletproof vests.
   
Wednesday night City Council approved a resolution to take part in a federal grant program. The federal government will match the city's contribution. 

Binghamton Police Chief Joseph Zakuski says the vests need to be replaced because they wear away after years of usage.

"We replace them every five years and budget for the rest of them.  So I thank council and the tax payers for providing this piece of equipment for the officers and help keep them safe."
 
Zakuski says the department will receive about 8 vests costing $800 each.
