(Source: By Kena Vernon)

The next time you visit the Vestal Rail trail you may notice some new additions.

Workers are planting a new garden next to the Rounds Coal House on the Vestal Rail Trail. Some walkers on the trail noticed the improvements during their daily exercise.

"Any flowers improve everything. They are pretty and liven it up,"said Christina O'Dell from Candor.

"It just adds more, and more beauty and attraction," added Sheryl Howell from Endicott.

All of the plants and trees are free, thanks to a donation from Home Depot.

"Fabulous outstanding, in today's economy we know money is very tight and we just want to thank Home Depot,"said Town of Vestal Councilman Steve Milkovich.

About 14 trees, 150 plants and flowers were planted. They are perennials which means they are expected to bloom and grow year after year.

Officials from the store also sent volunteers to put the garden together.

"A lot of people enjoy coming up here and walking. It's nice to have a job where you can do that they support and you get to go out and say to the community,"said Jeff Harris

"The reaction to walkers and bikers and everybody coming checking it out and taking pictures," added Diana White.

Most of the work should be done by the end of the Thursday.
