A Net-Zero MacArthur Elementary
6/19/2012 (Updated 11:16:35 PM)
(Source: Fox 40 Staff)Tuesday night at the Binghamton School Board meeting, a plan for a net zero school was unveiled. This means the school will produce the same amount of energy as the school uses.
Sources of energy for the school being considered are wind and solar.
School officials said they're excited to be in the planning phase of the new school.
"One of the things that we're starting to have conversations with is about this whole concept of net zero, and it really refers to being able to make as much energy in a building as we're using," said Assistant Superintendent Steven Deinhardt. "And it involves really, quite a lot of thought in terms of how we conserve energy, things along those lines, how do we create it, those kinds of issues."
Deinhardt said this is just the beginning of the planning process and construction won't be for a while yet.
