Police Academy for Kids
6/11/2012 (Updated 11:33:00 PM)
(Source: Fox 40 Staff)Vestal's first ever Youth Police Academy will take place this summer.
The program will be based on a real police academy.
It will include physical fitness training and education on a number of topics like drug and alcohol prevention, sexual assault, domestic violence, firearms safety, and basic first aid.
The academy is open to all current Vestal High School students, including graduating seniors.
"Think about the future, the possibilities of one of these students possibly preventing a tragedy or saving a life or something as a result of something they learned as a result of this academy," said Stace Kintner of the Vestal Police Department.
The deadline to apply for the academy is Tuesday, June 19th.
Students must have passing grades, good behavior, and their parents' permission.
