Cheevers Announces Run for Town of Union Supervisor
6/8/2012 (Updated 11:44:10 PM)
(Source: Fox 40 Staff)Cheevers is a three-time Town of Union Supervisor, most recently from 1996-2004.
He'll run against acting supervisor Rose Sotak.
He said Sotak should have taken over as supervisor when John Bernardo left the post to become Deputy County Executive.
Instead, he said, she remained acting supervisor so that if she loses the supervisor's race she can remain on the board.
Cheevers also questioned whether the board should have given Sotak a $9,000 raise for her extra work as acting supervisor.
"Her elected term is to the Town Council," said Cheevers. "If she wants to be the Town Supervisor I think that's fine. I think she should have taken it right away. Then she could have got the salary."
Sotak answered back, saying "This was brought to me. You're spending a lot of hours, you're getting a lot of results, and we think that this should be done."
Sotak said the town is addressing two other topics Cheevers has raised.
She said Union is working with the county to bring a skating rink to western Broome.
The town is also addressing the assessment of the land on the Huron Campus.
