Legislature Fails To Pass State Budget - 7/28/2010

Earlier Wednesday night, we told you the state legislature was holding a special session at the request of Governor Paterson to try to pass the budget.

But perhaps to no one's surprise, that has not happened.

The extraordinary session to pass the budget was missing 9 state Senators, and nothing was brought to vote.

The Senate's Democratic Majority was missing 5 members, and without their 32 votes, there weren't enough people to pass the last bill needed to finish the budget. 

The next session will be next Thursday.

 Gulf oil platform explodes, burning off La. coast
GRAND ISLE, La. – An offshore petroleum platform exploded and was burning Thursday in the Gulf of Mexico about 80 miles off the Louisiana coast, west of the site where BP's undersea well spilled after a rig explosion.
