Lumberjack Festival - 7/18/2010
At the two-day Lumberjack Festival, re-enactors created scenes one would one normally only have the chance to see in the movies or museums.
"The Iroquois lived in long houses and the way that the family lived we also have the garden where they grow food, the three sister garden," said Russ Cornwell, an Iroquois Indian re-enactor.
While this festival has arts and crafts, visitors also got the chance to see something a little different. From Indians on the island to lumberjacks on the main land, there are chances throughout the say to see craftsmen show off skills from the past.
"These guys have been around for quite a few years.
They have been performing and demonstrating lumberjack techniques," said Scott MacDonald, the executive director for the Waterman Conservation Center.
There were ax throwing demonstrations, cross-cut saw races, and chain saw carving. Both sites at the festival were genuine re-enactments of the time periods, and organizers say it is more than just family fun.
"It's certainly something you don't see it is history based these are things that made this country what we are now."
