BU Develops Online Forensic Health Certificate Program - 6/28/2010
Offered in a distance-learning format that fits hectic work schedules, the program will educate and prepare healthcare professionals to not only assist victims and their families deal with the physical, psychological and legal implications of violent crimes but also in how to ensure that evidence is appropriately documented and preserved for subsequent legal proceedings.
Covering issues such as child abuse, intimate partner violence, elder abuse and sexual violence, forensic health training is of particular interest to those in nursing, social work, psychology, occupational therapy and anthropology disciplines.
The certificate program covers three modules: forensic health essentials; forensic health of victims; and forensic health of offenders. All three modules are fully online and participants will be able to work at their own pace.
All three modules are needed to earn the certificate; however they can be taken separately. There are 45 contact hours for each module, for a total of 135 hours. Binghamton University (Decker School of Nursing and Continuing Education and Outreach) is an approved provider of continuing nursing education by the New York State Nurses Association, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.
Registration is now open through Binghamton University’s Office of Continuing Education and Outreach.
