Moving Beyond Coal - 3/16/2010
BU students want their university to move beyond coal. They got their message across at a rally held in front of the Couper Administration Building on campus.
Students, community members, and health professionals protested the use of coal burning at b-u as a source of energy. They say by 2015, the university should move towards a cleaner alternative -- one that won't cause the chronic illnesses that health professionals are seeing more local patients come into hospitals with.
"Bronchitis, asthma, frequent bouts of pneumonia, and I was really surprised to even be aware that there was still a coal burning plant in this area and especially on a college university," said Rosalind Wright, a registered nurse.
The rally was organized by the Sierra Club and is part of several events across the country for National Clean Air Day.
