BC Jail Won't Require As Much Staffing as Thought - 3/8/2010

The Broome County Jail won't need as many new hires as once thought.

The New York Commission of Corrections is now requiring only four additional positions be hired at the jail, down from the 21 it originally mandated in 2007.

After hiring just three more employees in 2008, the Sheriff's Department was unable to add any more staff because of budget constraints and was given a notice of violation by the commission for not complying with its mandate.

 Gulf oil platform explodes, burning off La. coast
GRAND ISLE, La. – An offshore petroleum platform exploded and was burning Thursday in the Gulf of Mexico about 80 miles off the Louisiana coast, west of the site where BP's undersea well spilled after a rig explosion.
