DOT Traveler Advisory - 3/8/2010

New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) announced today, that soil sampling will be performed on State Route 434 eastbound between the Binghamton University campus exit and Murray Hill Road in the town of Vestal, Broome County, beginning at 9 a.m. on March 10.  Motorists will encounter a driving lane closure in the eastbound direction on State Route 434.  All work is expected to be completed by 3 p.m. on March 10, weather permitting.

  As motorists approach work zones, it is advised to stay alert and calm.  Slow down when instructed to do so.  Merge safely.  Keep a safe distance between vehicles.  Obey the posted signs within the work zone.  Expect the unexpected. 

  Motorists are reminded that fines are doubled for speeding in a work zone.  In accordance with the Work Zone Safety Act of 2005, convictions of two or more speeding violations in a work zone could result in the suspension of the driver's license.

 Gulf oil platform explodes, burning off La. coast
GRAND ISLE, La. – An offshore petroleum platform exploded and was burning Thursday in the Gulf of Mexico about 80 miles off the Louisiana coast, west of the site where BP's undersea well spilled after a rig explosion.
