Gillibrand's Tax Cuts for the Middle Class and BBB's Tax Tips - 2/24/2010

As folks begin filing their taxes, Senator Kirsten Gillibrand wants New Yorkers to take advantage of every deduction available to them.

That includes one that will cut taxes for 93 percent of the state's residents.

More than 6 million middle class families will be eligible for the 'Making Work Pay Tax Credit'-- which was included in the 'American Recovery and Reinvestment Act' that Senator Gillibrand helped pass last year.

And you can never start filing your taxes too early according to the Better Business Bureau.

When choosing a tax preparer, the bureau suggests taking referrals from family and friends, conducting research, and reading contracts carefully.

Also, make sure you give yourself some time to correct potential mistakes, before the April 15th deadline, so you can avoid fines and fees.

 Gulf oil platform explodes, burning off La. coast
GRAND ISLE, La. – An offshore petroleum platform exploded and was burning Thursday in the Gulf of Mexico about 80 miles off the Louisiana coast, west of the site where BP's undersea well spilled after a rig explosion.
