New County Gas Development Team - 2/19/2010

Broome County Executive Barbara Fiala says she's putting together a gas development team to get gas drilling underway in Broome County.

Fiala says the team will consist of legislators, including Mario Nirchi, a former DEC official, and other officials within the community.

The team will gather information about drilling in the Marcellus Shale, and will let the public know about developing issues.

"We're going to try and coordinate all those efforts, work with the coalitions, work with the public, work with DEC to try and get this industry moving and put the same regulations on it that we think are absolutely necessary to protect our environment and protect the people of Broome County," said Fiala.

 Gulf oil platform explodes, burning off La. coast
GRAND ISLE, La. – An offshore petroleum platform exploded and was burning Thursday in the Gulf of Mexico about 80 miles off the Louisiana coast, west of the site where BP's undersea well spilled after a rig explosion.
