Congressman Murtha Dies at Age 77 - 2/8/2010

Representative John Murtha of Pennsylvania is dead at age 77.

Murtha's office says the Democrat died at Virginia Hospital Center in Arlington Monday afternoon.

Murtha was admitted to the hospital after complications from gallbladder surgery.

He was first elected to the House of Representatives in the early 1970s--the first Vietnam Veteran elected to Congress.

Murtha was well known for opposing the Bush Administration's war policies.

Murtha was also Pennsylvania's longest serving member of Congress.
