VESTAL, N.Y. (BUbearcats.com) -- Junior co-captain Moussa Camara scored all 14 of his points in the second half and Binghamton (11-13, 6-3 AE) put four players in double figures to fend off visiting Albany (6-19, 1-9 AE) 78-73 Wednesday night from the Events Center. The win, BU's fourth in a row, moved the surprising Bearcats into third place in the America East standings and completed the season sweep of their longtime SUNY rival.
With Camara flying to the basket for six field goals in the second half, BU shot 59%, led throughout the period and held off a late Great Danes' charge. Freshman guard Dylan Talley scored eight points in the final 4:43 and BU made just enough free throws to withstand three Albany three-pointers in the final 1:04. Binghamton led 73-62 with 1:21 left before the Great Danes clawed to within four, 75-71, with 0:30 left. Talley made 1-of-2 free throws and junior forward Greer Wright sealed the win with a press-breaking dunk off a feed from Talley.
"It was a tremendous game played by two up-and-coming teams," interim head coach Mark Macon said. "It was a game of runs and we had the last one. I'm very proud of our guys. They stayed together and are growing up."
The Bearcats had to manage with their top player, Wright, saddled with foul trouble throughout the game. Wright, who leads the conference in scoring (20.0 ppg. in AE play), was whistled for three fouls in the first half and played just 24 minutes in the game. He still managed to score a game-high 19 points.
"We have a bunch of stars on our team and they all can shine," Macon said of his team's perseverance without Wright in the game. "One star got taken away and the other guys stepped up and made plays."
Talley wound up with 17 points, five assists and two blocks and Camara hit 6-of-12 for 14 points and added eight rebounds. Junior forward Mahamoud Jabbi recorded his third double-double of the season with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Jabbi scored all 12 of his points in the first half as BU staked itself to a 34-31 on Talley's buzzer-beating three-pointer.
The Bearcats travel to Orono to face Maine Saturday afternoon.
