Local Church Remembers Quake Victims & Prays For Survivors - 1/16/2010
Sending money and supplies is one way of helping the victims of the Haiti earthquake, but some residents in the Southern Tier are reaching out to the people of Haiti in a different way.A service was held at the Grace Tabernacle Church in Binghamton Saturday to remember those who were lost in the seven point earthquake that rocked the island earlier this week and pray for the survivors.
One woman who attended the service said she's been to Haiti before and was amazed by the spirit of the people, the same spirit she says she sees now during the time of tragedy.
"I think we can learn best from the Haitian people. I saw on the news yesterday, videos of Haitian people marching through the streets singing spiritual songs, and in spite of everything they have been through, they still have faith and hope," said Janice Miller.
The service included French hymns and readings, as well as a money collection for the Haiti relief effort.
