Ambulance Driver Dies In 3 Car Crash - 1/13/2010

The Tioga Center Fire Department is mourning the loss of one if its long-time members.

81-year-old Leroy Kemp died shortly after 6 a.m. Wednesday morning responding to an EMS call for an accident.

On the way to the fire station Kemp struck a Southern Tier Recycling Truck on State Route 17C at the intersection of Schoonover Road in Tioga.

The recycling truck was blocking the road because of an accident
it had gotten into with another car.

Kemp was pronounced dead at the scene.

Tioga Central Schools was delayed for two hours because of the crash.

The Tioga County Sheriff’s Department investigated a car-truck fatal motor vehicle accident that occurred on State Route 17C at the intersection of Schoonover Rd. in the town of Tioga.

A Southern Tier Recycler’s truck was stopped crossways in the roadway blocking both the west and eastbound lanes due to a prior motor vehicle accident involving a car and the truck.

A vehicle, operated by Leroy A. Kemp, age 81, was traveling eastbound when it struck the rear of the truck. Kemp, a member of the Tioga Center
Fire Department, was responding to the Tioga Center Fire Department for an EMS call when the accident happened.

Kemp was pronounced dead at the scene. No other injuries were reported.
Assisting at the scene was the Tioga Center Fire Dept., Owego Fire Dept., Nichols Fire Dept., Huckles Wrecker Service, and NYS Department of Transportation.
