Veteran's For Peace Past President Speaks in Binghamton - 1/12/2010
After a recent trip to the middle east, one peace activist says it's not about who's right or wrong. The Veterans for Peace hosted their National Past President, Elliott Adams Tuesday at the Unitarian-Universalist Church in Binghamton.
Adams returned from his trip to Gaza in November, and calls what he saw there "horrific."
He says solving the problems there is so difficult because both sides --the Israelis and the Palestinians-- have justifications for their arguments.
"It's no different than when you see to kids in the school yard fist-fighting. You grab them by the scruff of the neck and say 'who started it?' 'Oh he hit me first.' 'Well he threw sand in my eyes first.' 'Yeah, but he spat at me first.' 'Yeah, but he called my mother a bad name.' Well, each one is justified, so that doesn't get us anywhere," said Adams.
Adams says he believes there is still hope for peace in Gaza and says it starts with urging officials to enforce international humanitarian laws.
