Transportation Projects Harder To Complete - 12/14/2009
Making improvements to Southern Tier roads and bridges is getting harder as the country is experiencing the pain of the down economy.Members of the Binghamton Metropolitan Transportation Study met Monday to discuss ways to fund current construction projects despite constraints from the federal government.
Members say it's getting harder to make good on projects that have been already committed to.
"As projects have from initial commitments, they've gotten more expensive as they often do, it takes three to five years, sometimes longer to get a project from its inception to actual construction, and costs go up," said Steven Gayle, Executive Director, BMTS.
Currently BMTS is examining projects like the Front Street Corridor and the Route 201 bridge over the Vestal Parkway.
