Vestal High School’s Interact Club Conducting Holiday Food Drive - 12/2/2009

The Vestal High School Interact Club kicked off their holiday food drive in conjunction with their mentoring organization, the Vestal Rotary International. Vestal High School students will compete between first-period classes to bring in the most canned goods. The food drive began
November 30 and will run until December 11. All food donations collected will be sorted and boxed by Interact Club members, then picked up by the Vestal Rotary for distribution to families in the Vestal community. Interact Club’s charitable efforts will continue past the holidays. A book drive is planned for January 4 - 22, 2010, and the community is welcome to contribute. Collection barrels will be located at each Vestal school for your donations of new and gently used books. The books will be resold and the profits used to purchase books for schools and libraries in Nepal, or donated to organizations throughout the United States.

 Gulf oil platform explodes, burning off La. coast
GRAND ISLE, La. – An offshore petroleum platform exploded and was burning Thursday in the Gulf of Mexico about 80 miles off the Louisiana coast, west of the site where BP's undersea well spilled after a rig explosion.
