Wendy's Walk Raises Thousands For Kids - 12/1/2009
The totals are in, and this year's Wendy's Walk for kids is paying off big time for some local children. The Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption, the Children's Home, A Room to Heal, and the Institute For Child Development at Binghamton University each received checks for $10,000 thanks to proceeds from the walk.
The Dave Thomas Foundation says even though the economy has been weak this year, groups have still made generous donations to help the 130,000 children up for adoption in the U.S. find homes.
"When they find out that 20% of those kids every year age out, and they go through their whole life not having a family, and they age out, it creates an urgency," said Jeff Coghlan, Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption.
The Dave Thomas Foundation says its $10,000 will go towards funding Wendy's Wonderful Kids recruiters and research on adoption.
Wendy's plans to hold a second annual walk for kids during the 2010 Dick's Sporting Goods Open.
