Officials Gear Up For First Outdoor AHL Game - 11/24/2009
It's officially official. All eyes will be on the B-Sens during the first ever outdoor American Hockey League game.
It was formally announced today at the State Fairgrounds that the Binghamton Senators will take on the Syracuse Crunch in the Mirabito Outdoor Classic. The event will take place at the Fairgrounds on February 20th at 1pm and tickets are on sale now. The AHL hopes to follow the success of the two NHL Winter Classics that have taken place the past two years at outdoor venues in Buffalo and Chicago. Getting the game off the ground was a big deal and it took the work of some high ranking New York State officials including Governor David Paterson and Senator Charles Schumer. For everyone involved it was a ground-breaking occasion.
Sen. Charles E. Schumer "We can now officially say that we are standing on the site of the first ever AHL outdoor hockey game."
Thomas Mitchell "The Mirabito Outdoor Classic is a first and for our organization to be involved in it, it's a pleasure."
Howard Dolgon "I stand before you today with a chance to put on what I believe to be the greatest single day sporting event in the area."
