Groundbreaking For North Side Save-A-Lot - 11/24/2009
It's something North Side Binghamton Residents have been waiting for for almost 15 years, and Tuesday their wish came true.
It was the groundbreaking ceremony for the 1.8 million dollar Save-A-lot store, located at 10-12 West State Street.
The grocery store will be built with state grants and comes at no cost to the local taxpayer.
The store will take the place of the old McDonald's and bring 25 new jobs to the area.
Council Member Lea Webb, who spear-headed the project says it is very close to her heart.
"I'm truly thankful, especially during this time of the year, that we are able to celebrate this moment, of this being the last time residents will have to go through so many barriers to get access to basic human need, food," said Council Member Lea Webb, (D) 4th District, Binghamton.
The Save-A-Lot store is scheduled to be open next Fall.
