County Executive to Sue County Legislature - 11/24/2009

Broome County Executive Barbara Fiala is suing the legislature because of its decision to increase the county's 2010 budget.

In a statement released Tuesday, the administration says the actions passed by the legislature during Monday night's meeting increased budget appropriations and added a position.

According to the Broome County Charter, legislators don't have the power to increase budget items.

Fiala admits the lawsuit will most likely cause hard feelings between the executive and legislative branches.

A court ruling will provide a formal interpretation of the charter.
